Salmon leaping and dear rutting add to the seasonal sights and sounds waiting to be discovered. There is nowhere better in Scotland to take in the glorious colours of autumn than Perthshire.
The two acres of woodland is entirely tranquil and is home to some of the tallest trees in the country. Near the end of this section a slight deviation (left) from the fence takes you to a stile where you enter the forestry. Despite how impressive the dam and the technology it runs is, most visitors come away raving about the fish ladder.

On the outskirts of Pitlochry is the 60m high Black Spout Waterfall which funnily enough is situated in Black Spout Wood. It is nestled against a cliff face and can be a bit tricky to get to after wet weather, due to high water levels. If you have time there is a three mile circular route called the Edradour Path which continues uphill through the wood past Edradour Whisky Distillery and back through Pitlochry. The route continues to a junction where the Right of Way goes right to Dalnaspidal.
Springtime in Perthshire is a sight to behold as the frost and snowdrops give way to stunning flora and fauna, including carpets of bluebells and ospreys nesting. You need to expect that at least part of your day will be spent near busy roads or strolling down a housing estate. For those walkers looking for a two-day adventure, the Cateran Mini Trail offers the ideal opportunity to sample some of the best bits of the Cateran Trail over a weekend or for a short break. From the car park, turn left and follow the purple arrow to a minor road where you turn left. The return is back along the minor road through the village. It follows River Tummel upstream to the village. Annaloughan Loop is situated in the heart of the Cooley Peninsula, and starts starting and finishing at the car park of Fitzpatricks restaurant and bar. You can also walk around Loch Ossian and take catch the train back to Rannoch. There is a path which you can follow round in a circle from start to finish. Burial Places in Rannoch; Cafes and Tea Rooms; Camping & Caravans; Several companies offer guided walking tours, 4x4 tours, and bus tours of Rannoch and its surroundings. An uphill section takes you to a small wooden viewing platform which gives an excellent vantage point to appreciate the waterfall rushing down the hillside. With over 200,000 acres of woodland, including more champion trees than anywhere else in the UK, autumn in Perthshire is pretty spectacular. This path continues on from Buchanan Path and features fantastic views over Loch Rannoch towards Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor. I've also decided to include a couple of other places with interesting viewpoints that involve short but moderate going and sometimes uneven uphill walks, although the effort is worth the reward in my opinion. For experienced hikers, there are plenty of challenging routes including Schiehallion, one of the Munroes. Turn left to the starting point at Annat, approximately 3 km along the public road.
