Weight wise, it is pretty light (26lbs) and you could make it a tiny bit lighter by removing the stand and cutting the seat post. I've made do on a $100 used GT mountain bike for the past 8 years and it's done everything I've wanted it to...until I went on my first (metric) century ride this past weekend and realized that it doesn't fit and it certainly isn't suited for long road rides. Seriously, you're just going to run into more problems. The Vilano has quick-release on both the front and back wheels; the Schwinn only has quick-release on the front.

At Schwinn we believe no one can write your journey, only you can. They also have other road bikes in that price range. If that isn't an option, throw as much money as you can muster at bikes direct.
I can't even find the Dawes Lightning Sport in their list of bikes, only from a Google search.
Spending a little more at the start will save you a lot of headaches in the future. Dawes must have a hard time supplying the larger frames since all on BI are 44-50cm.

Getting yourself out there, up there, and riding is one of the best and most enjoyable ways to get fit and have an efficient ride on a Schwinn Solara road bike. You're being aggressively cheap about this, but at least you are up front about it.
The Liberty 2 is also a solid deal at the same price.
Ante up a little and get the dawes lightning sport for $239 from bikes direct. This bike will have you out there in a full bike kit shedding the pounds or out there training for the next race.
